What better reason to post in a neglected LJ than being out of the country?
I flew to New Zealand yesterday, Saturday. Now it's Tuesday. I know In know. It's confusing.
It was a beautiful day flying out. of Seattle and a beautiful day flying into San Francisco.
After 14 hrs on a plane - it was good to see the lights of Auckland approaching.
I spent 3 hr on a plane, 3 hr in SF Int'l, 14 hr on a plane, 2 hr in Auckland Int'l, 2.5 hr on a plane, 2 hr downtown Christchurch, 6.5 hr on a wobbling bus winding up curvy roads to Wanaka. It was like 30 hr, but felt like 4 days. I kept myself conscious by drinking coffee at every turn. I had 2 americanos before leaving Seattle, then had a latte at every stop. Totaling 6. Wow. Once I touched down in NZ, I had a meat pie at every stop. I think that totaled 3. They were good, but are so rich and fattening that I may be done. I've since been told they're best reserved for when you're DeeeRunk.
Yea - that's what I'm talking about.
It's beautiful here. All LotR and everything. I knew I was coming to Winter, but in my mind that only applied to the snowy mountains I'd be riding. I was surprised to be greeted by gray rainy skies and leafless trees. Oh I like it enough, it's just a bit of an adjustment. Feels great though after a long, sweaty Seattle summer. Whew!
See what I mean? Miserable.
That's
Lake Wanaka. Here's Jamie's house, where I'm staying (the fuzzy yellow one at the top of the frame):
When I got in last night I was a zombie. Jamie and I sat around his place for awhile, then I woke up my bones w/ a quick workout, took a shower and went to bed by 10. I woke at just after 6 this morning, read a bit, consulted w/ Jamie about how I'd spend my day. I feel good, other than my lower back (which has been begging for attention on and off for awhile, but has been able to be maintained w/ frequent exercise). I'm going to try to get in to an accupuncturist for it(.
I went for a long walk around the town and along the lake in the first half of the day and now I'm watching my first NFL games (Monday Night Fotoball on Jamie's ESPN) until Jamie gets home.
I found a great trail along the lake on which to go for a run, I'll be snowboarding most of the days this week, and I'll probably do a day trip and a hike this week. Next week Jamie has mostly off, so we'll rent a car and drive to a couple other resorts to ride, check out the west coast. I want to go back to Christchurch a day or so early to spend some time there. It seemed like a nice place. Very English, I'm told.
*sidenote: I have an alterior motive for my trip. I will be researching the ins and outs of immigrating and practicing therapy here. You know - in case McPaylin wins.
I'll be posting pics over on my
Flickr if you're interested.
