Tom Shear always succeeds to get my full attention, both musically and lyrics-wise. his lyrics are almost always beautiful without being far-fetched.
i haven't really checked out VNV Nation since their last two albums. listenened into them a bit and found them boring.... ^^ and yeah, those always-the-same-phrases were going on my nerves, too! *yawn*
Lyrics which seem to be "going through the motions" are like over chewed gum I think. Tho I admit to an ironic smile at the "judgement day's not coming soon enough" line... ;-)
But then again, I could always sing along with some venom to that particular line. Reap what you sow..

as Tom Shear wrote about "Judgement":
I do have to wonder when VNV is just going to come out of the closet and admit they are a Christian Rock band. hehe Genesis (not to mention the quotes from book of Genesis they used on their Apop remix)... Left Behind (a popular uber-Christian series of novels here in the US)... Matter & Form... Judgement (and what of the three columns on the cover of this? The father, the son, and the holy ghost?)... Testament... the 'Never-endng light' reference on their website...Could it be that VNV is the industrial version of Stryper? ; )
Brave really, and nicely put.
So much more to connect with than uncle Ronan's current vague pretensions...
