[In New Bark Town, if anyone is still around, you might find a somewhat frustrated man - tossed back into his Navy uniform for who knows what reason - prodding at his PokeGear, a Wingull perched on his shoulder as if it was the most natural place for it to be. Despite the fact that the man seems to have no idea what to do with the machine, the ( Read more... )

[So it was a nice day. As usual Lion was sitting, reading a book and getting some culture, with the pokegear close by, to see if there were any transmissions that needed an answer...]

[A new transmission starts, then, and oh, look this person looks a lot like a young grandfather or maybe an older Battler...]

[JOHTO YOU CAN'T BE DOING THIS TO ME.

IT'S GRANDFATHER. AND HE LOOKS SO YOUNG. AND THOSE CLOTHES. STOP BRINGING ALL OF THESE PEOPLE FROM DIFFERENT TIMELINES.]

Let's talk to him. And see which is exactly his timeline. Take a deep breath...]

[HELLO GRANDPA. I herd u liek Beatos. So have Lion, who looks a bit like a Beato.]

As far as we know, this place draws people from their worlds and brings them here without anyone ever knowing why... And nobody knows how to leave willingly.

There are some more things I wouldn't mind explaining if you wish to hear about it.

[At the sight of the newcomer, Kinzo can't help but need a few moments to blink. At first, this youth certainly looked like... No, that can't be. And what's more, that symbol on their collar: it was something Kinzo had been toying with, but only mentally, no one could possibly know about it... ... Surely, it's all just coincidence...]

[... as if there is such a thing anymore. Grinning almost rogueishly, Kinzo leans back - Gen the Wingull unmoving in his perch on the man's shoulder.]

Interesting.

Very well. I'll hear your tale.

I have been here for a few months now, and I learned that this place not only plays with space, it also toys with time.

People from all kinds of worlds have arrived here, even from worlds we could consider mere fantasies... And some people who come from the same world sometimes are from different timelines.

A few months? [He pauses, pondering something.] Are you sure about that? If it toys with time as you say, you can't be sure how long you've been here at all.

So, for instance, a character from a book I might have read as a youth could appear here as if they were as real as you and I? [another laugh, though he doesn't refute it just yet. it's all... really interesting.] However... Just what do you mean by different timelines?

I've been following the days and months according to this place's calendar, but I heard that if I ever go back to my world, I would appear in the exact moment I left.

I have met many people I didn't think could exist... But you will be able to see that for yourself. And about the timelines... What I mean is that here you can meet people who are from your past or from your future.

Has such a thing been proven? That sounds rather convenient if you ask me.

[Kinzo pauses again] Past aside... Couldn't one simply be lying about the future? If they knew enough about the present, in such a situation, they could twist their words however they wanted to. If we really are blocked from all things "real", without a way to prove such claims false, we would have to accept their obvious lies as true, wouldn't we?

I haven't gone back myself, but that is what others have said about their own experiences. In a place like this those words are the only thing some can hang on to.

[Lion pauses too at that last part.] No, I don't completely agree with that. If someone came to me and told me about what the future holds for me, I would still choose to make my own future regardless of their words.
I have come to believe that there are as many possible futures as one can imagine.

How honest of you. [Kinzo nods, leaving it at that.]

Of course. That doesn't mean their words will hold an ounce of truth, and even if they had, I would simply use what they tell me to change my plans accordingly.

... You are rather young to be saying such a thing. [a beat] What is your name?

Of course, but if there are endless possible futures, then even the most absurd lies may happen under the right circumstances.

My name is Lion. In one of those possible futures I'm one of your grandchildren, but of course, it's up to you to believe it or not.
