I got my start on Wolfenstein 3d, then this. Lately, I've been replaying both DOOM and DOOM II.
What got me started on this "retro" kick was hearing that DOOM III is going to be released soon. Funny thing is, I'm not looking forward to DOOM III nearly as much as I probably ought to; I think it's because I enjoy "filling in" the picture with my imagination with the more "primitive" graphics and gameplay of I and II.
I seriously need to dig out the userpic I made of the DOOM space marine...
DOOM II, on the other hand, is very cheap, when you can find it. Amazon.com has one for $25, which is ludicrous. When you can find it on the bargain shelves at places like Best Buy, CompUSA and such, it tends to run more like $5 - $15, tops.
