I went through confirmation in high school and found it to be a very fun experience in my Lutheran church... Since I turned out as athiest as anyone you may want to reconsider, but out of our "class" I think I was the only one that turned to the dark side -- so it must be a decent template... *shrug*
Very simple and low-planning on your end, which I'm sure you'd be all about. The first session we pretty much discussed what we were gonna get into, and that instead of some boring cirriculum our pastor thought it would work out better if we just talked about day-to-day life, and considered the religious aspects of it all. Basic morality type stuff... He'd thrown in applicable verses, or give the occasional scenario or "Scruples" type question...
I think the first day we also did a discussion on the Bible as a guidebook and not so much a history book.
*shrug* Thought I'd share. You seem like the hip type that could do a chat session type scenario with your kids -- it seemed useful to mention, even. :)
Thanks man. Actually, I exaggerate--I've some idea what we're doing. It's more the parental expectation that's stressful. There's this script that the upper-middle class follows which includes a teenage Transition of some kind. I'm all for it, having read Joseph Campbell and all, but there's this expectation that whether the kids are ready for the commitment, they'll do it anyway 'cause mom and dad say so. That's not a real commitment.
So, I guess there's a little stress over the content, but more over people's general obliviousness.
