Episcopal Church Update

For those who are interested in what is happening in the Episcopal Church and the worldwide Anglican Church as relates to homosexuality, authority, ordination, and schism, please check out the following link. It's a bit dense, but not particularly long and an excellent response. Don't let any of the politeness fool you--they're firm.

Quick rehash of recent events: Primates of the worldwide Anglican Communion, of which the American Episcopal Church is a part, met in recently and wrote an ultimatum. It calls particularly for the Episcopal Church to cease and desist all relationship with gays and lesbians in baptized or ordained positions. That's an extreme way of putting it, I think, but more or less accurate. Do this or suffer the consequences, essentially. There's also big concern in the global south over ambiguity--they don't like it, we thrive on it. The bishops of the Episcopal Church just met and said, essentially, "no."

It seems likely, in my opinion, that there will be a split of some kind. There was a time when I thought it wouldn't happen, but it seems more or less inevitable now. When? How? What will happen later? God knows.
