Wasn't every morning you Effy was woken by the sound of things getting kicked and thrown around. Not lately, anyway. So when she was today, it was pretty obvious there would be no extra long lie-in for her. Even if it hadn't jerked her awake, she'd have gone to investigate. It was just the way she was.
Maybe that was a fucking stupid idea, but she was hardly going to hide in her room when it sounded like some kind of riot going on, her instinct to was to know it all and curiosity was that bit too strong.
Expecting to see some other student causing a mess, she stopped dead on seeing that fucking creepy-looking green thing in the doorway to the common room surrounded by the debris of plates, food, and stuffing that she assumed came from inside one of the couch cushions.
The gremlin chittered angrily when he looked up to see someone staring at it, even if that someone was already backing away towards the stairwell so she had somewhere to run. Had a sense of self-preservation, thank you. Sticking around would be nuts. That thing had claws and fangs and was looking at her like she was dinner.
Effy wasn't really a fighter, even if she liked to think she could look after herself, but really she was more of an observer than she was at anything physical. Anything she did was out of a defensive survival instinct and no real skill at all. Without anything to defend herself with, it was a case of trying to get away from the damn thing, and at least it was still at a decent distance.
For now. It was at a decent distance for now.
What she wasn't expecting was for it to grab and throw half a bloody plate at her before it leaped her way. Much as she tried to duck out the way it caught
her cheek and she stumbled back. Fucking ow. Not quite too shocked to cry out at that, she instinctively pressed a palm against her cheek like it would dull the searing pain and aimed a kick at the gremlin skittering towards her and sent it into a wall.
God she loved these boots. Especially today.
Took several long moments before she recovered enough to try and peel her hand away from her cheek and regretted it when she saw the amount of blood on her fingers, immediately pressing back against it and moving away down the stairs. Yeah, still ow.
But she'd rather get away from more of those ominous noises and the stunned and half-stirring gremlin and find just about anyone else than think about that right now. Could clean up her face a little later.
