Alex was letting Effy have the run of his bed for the moment because he was content to sit near his window and smoke. He didn't need to give the kitty second hand smoke inhalation. See how nice he was?
When he looked over and noticed the lack of fur and the lack of four legs, he just smirked and waited for her to realize so he could start laughing.
His open window did at least help to speed up the realisation that she was way colder than she had been for most of this week, and her mind to catch up with reality.
There was a brief moment of dozy fuzziness before things started clicking and she thought to uncurl herself a bit and shoot a look around to see where she was, and who might be witness to this. Lucky, really, that she hadn't been wandering around exploring the dorms about now.
"... Shut up." It didn't take a genius, or even someone fully awake to read that expression. It was worth preempting.
Effy twisted her mouth in an expression of distaste and folded her arms around herself (it didn't make her feel any warmer at all). Obviously she'd had a little too much of that over the last week or so. It suddenly didn't seem as attractive...
"Might happen to you next time," she warned, casting a look around for a shirt to commandeer. She'd mock him just the same if it ever happened, but that wouldn't stop her from shooting him a dirty look for laughing at her today. "You should probably keep it around."
"It might but it might not," he said, sticking his cigarette between his lips and heading to his closet. He pulled out a fairly thick sweatshirt with the words UNIVERSITY OF IOWA plastered on the front.
"I'm almost hesitant to give this to you because it means no more naked," he said and frowned at her. "That's a sad, sad thing for me."
"It's fucking cold. Your own fault for keeping your windows open." It was all very considerate and all (blah blah secondhand smoke inhalation) but bloody freezing.
So right now, no she would not turn that down, and unwrapped herself to stretch a hand out. "That worried you wont see it again?"
"Not worried," he said, letting her have the sweatshirt before dropping down to sit next to her. "It's not that cold outside. You're just made of skin and bones so even hot summer days make you cold."
And since he was feeling polite, he waited till she got his sweatshirt on before passing her the cigarette if she wanted it.
Effy shrugged his jumper on, tugging it tightly around her shoulders before she finally got to snag the cigarette he was offering.
"Being no clothes kind of has that effect too." Naked, open window and February was always going to be a combination that led to at least a little shivering. Got used to having her own layers. Fur had its benefits.
"... How long?" she asked after a few moments. Time wasn't something she'd been keeping track of.
"Over a week," he said, reaching to rub her back to get some of that warmth back into her. "You missed Spring Break. Everyone went to Hawaii. You and I, we chilled here."
"Ooh, I bet that was exciting," she said, with obvious false enthusiasm. Her apathy just shone through, whatever she did or said. "Surprised you haven't gone all stir crazy with just me to talk at."
Effy pulled another face and briefly buried her face into the neck of his jumper. "Missed my week of freedom," she pointed out. "You'd be pissed too."
Could've had a week in Hawaii, or even a week here with him as a human would've been pretty sweet. She'd wasted it sleeping, purring and begging for tuna.
"I had plans." Not major lifechanging plans. But whatever. Plans.
"What plans?" Alex asked curiously. "You spent all week asleep and relaxing. Sure, you were a cat but come on, it wasn't like you were working your ass off somewhere or being subjected to your parents."
Effy shrugged idly and offered him his fag back. "Go out, do things, drink and enjoy myself." What else was Spring break for? "Maybe get a tan." Or she'd have tried, anyway.
She'd never claimed her plans were groundbreaking or anything, but they were hers, and would've been fucking brilliant, thanks.
"Well, nothing you can do about it now," Alex said, shrugging. "You didn't put me out or anything. I had to stick around here in case shit went down with my mom so I was happy to have someone around, cat shaped or not. We can go out and get fucked up tonight, if you want. Break's not over yet."
"Mmm." That was something, at least. One way to kick her herself back into a human mindset, stop her from wanting to curl up and eat tuna. That just wasn't normal.
"Might've considered staying if I'd known," she told him. Even if she'd been human. Would've been more interesting as herself, she was sure.
