Video Interview: Shade wanted me to say something. He's stood there waiting. So... here I am.
[SILENCE. 10 SECONDS. NO BREAK IN VIDEO INTERVIEW.]
...Whatever. This is stupid.
[BREAK. VIDEO INTERVIEW RESUMED IN 5 MINUTES 8 SECONDS. INTERVIEWEE HIGHLY UNCO-OPERATIVE.]
Fine. Fine. I'll talk.
How I got out of the Dorms.
It was almost my Sad Birthday. You know what happens then.
So, in on of my last lessons, I stole a pen. Didn't use the tip. I'm not an idiot, I knew getting ink in my blood wouldn't be very smart. I snapped it and used a sharp piece of the plastic. They tried to keep sharp things away from us, so I got that instead.
[SILENCE. 7 SECONDS. NO BREAK IN VIDEO INTERVIEW.]
You know why. [SIGH.] ...For the sake of the video, it was to get the tracker out. I used the sharp plastic and carved out the tracker from my wrist. Then I was free. I escaped.
I don't have a Change Power.
[SILENCE. 13 SECONDS. NO BREAK IN VIDEO INTERVIEW.]
Shade wants to know about the scar on my face, too.
After I escaped, I was on the streets. Alone. I don't know how long for. It was a while until I was caught and almost taken away by Myrmidons. They usually only use force when necessary, I know that better than anyone. But I got one by surprise, killed it. They turned on me, slashed my face, but I got away. So now you know.
I was badly wounded after that. Maybe would've died if one of Shade's patrols hadn't found me.
The rest is none of your business. Any Other History Points: Though the boys and girls are kept strictly separate in the dorms, whenever they mingled, such as at mealtimes, there was a girl. She came to talk to Squall, asked how he was doing, cared about him. She claimed to be Squall's sister-- which is how he knows his surname. Whether she was really his sister, he never knew, but he certainly came to see her as such a figure: though their meetings were brief, she was the closest thing to love Squall ever had.
When he never saw her again, he was too young to understand what had happened, and felt betrayed. Likewise, many people he knew came and went, and he's learned that it's just easier not to let anyone close to him. He never found out what happened to the girl, whether she was kept for breeding, became a monster, or escaped. He hoped it was the latter, as he still thinks of her sometimes.
He spent a year alone, making him fifteen when Shade took him in. He's been with Shade for two years as of now, and has so far steadfastly remained loyal to his cause. As if to cut off ties with his past, he almost constantly wears gloves to conceal the gaudy scar on his wrist.
