Not One

Threads of darkness
weave the wicked web
of the seeming everlasting night.

One is caught in the
tangle of threads
and drawn up into the sky.

One feels the coldness,
the breath of night
and is lost in its trance.

In this entanglement
one reaches for a star,
a petite flame engulfed in darkness.

One reaches and grasps
the tiny flame, it shimmers
sharing its light, its life.

The web has ensnared
this star, and others
yet they still burn brightly.

Within the tangles of night
one is not as one alone,
for the stars are companions.
