Helping Save Lives

Life is still good...

I recently made sure I am an organ donor for when I pass. While doing this, I researched into being a bone marrow donor.

My parents have a friend named Jose. Jose has a daughter with Leukemia. She is in her early 30's, but has been living with the disease for many years. All she needs is a bone marrow transplant, but for years now, she hasn't found a match. No one in her family is a match.

This is not an unusual story. In fact, 70% of all people that need a bone marrow transplant are not a match to anyone in their family. This means they have to rely on strangers.

I think it is so very important for people to realize that they can do this. I did not know there was such a program where you could sign up to be a donor. The sad part is that I may not be a match for anyone. That's why it's important for as many people that can, to sign up and do it. It's not a big procedure at all and the pain is minimal compared to the fact that you would be saving a life.

I told all of this to Seany and I am proud to say that today he joined as well :)

I'm so very happy that my boyfriend has it in his heart to want to help other people out as well. I always said I wanted a boyfriend/husband that cared for others and I'm glad that I got him :)

Life is so much more rewarding when you are doing good things. I wish volunteering in other countries was cheaper so I could do it now. I wish I had a job now that was flexible. But all things will have to wait. I don't understand the people that DO have the money and capabilities to help out other people and they do nothing.

Another simple thing that people can do to help out is give blood. Unfortunately for me, every time I've given it, I've almost passed out. I don't know why it makes me so weak, but my body just can't take it. It's really upsetting to me because that's something that can be done every few months.

Donating cord blood is another way you can help out. When your baby is born you can donate their cord blood which can help save lives as well. This works in the same way as donating bone marrow.

Sooo... I'm reading the Sookie Stackhouse series right now (the books that True Blood is based on). I have to say after watching the first season of True Blood and now reading the first book, I like the series better. I'm curious if I'll like the other books. Also, it's really sad to say, but I think I'm biased because of Twilight. The vampires in True Blood are different than in Twilight. I much prefer the focus in Twilight too. I feel like Charlaine Harris is trying to make Bill very sexy and sensual, but he just comes across harsh in the book. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but the connection between Edward and Bella, and the description of how they FEEL about each other is much more sexy and seductive then the more vulgar description of Sookie and Bill and him saying "I want to fuck you." ugh. That is just not hott to me one bit. Then again, I do know other women to find it verrryyy hot.

I do like True Blood though because there is so much more happening on the show then in the book. In fact, Tara isn't even in the book! I don't know if any of you watch True Blood or have read the books, so this may be pointless.

In other news... life is still going pretty decent. I'm hoping Seany can get a new job soon and then maybe we can actually move into the Ramona house sometime next year. As long as we can get to the point where we can survive off of his income only, we can live in the house.

My birthday was nice this year. It was very chill, which is exactly what I was going for. Saturday we went tubing at the snow at Del osso with Joe and Melissa. That was good times. I'm so glad we have stayed such close friends with them. It's nice to see them often, especially little Aiden whom I'm in love with.

After that we went to sushi in lathrop with Ken, Erin, Rylie, Jamie, Nicki, Amy, and Trevor. It was soooooooo good! Mike and Kristen invited us over to have a bday celebration there which was soooo nice. She told me I could invite anyone I wanted which I thought was ridiculously nice. However, I only wanted to invite Amy and Trevor haha. Jen was there too so that was nice as well. Unfortunately, we only stayed a couple hours cuz seany wasn't feeling well. We went back to the Walker residence and he went to sleep earlier while I partied with Erin, Henry, and Justin.

On my actual bday (Sunday), we cuddled in my bed all day and watched a movie. Then my brothers, sister-in-laws, nieces, and nephew came over for pizza, cake, and ice cream. It was quite lovely.

Okay, I've written too much and I'm going to get back to my book now.
