Age is not wisdom. The biggest factor in how things work out in your life is your actions. It is neither impossible nor gauranteeded for you to have the life you want, so make it happen.
You can't really generalize love. And people like to talk about what will and won't make you happy, successful, whatever. Um, there are no absolutes. And most of the time, if someone tries to generalize that, they don't really know what they're talking about. Sounds like a really uplifting conversation though. *raging sarcasm*
Hey, I'm sorry you had do listen to that sort of invalidation from a family member... or relative, at least. Either way, he had no right to tell you that what you believe is wrong... beliefs are inherently subjective and dependent upon one's perspective. He should have voiced his opinions in a way that wasn't hurtful or disrespectful of the way you choose to live.
I think your beliefs are important simply because they give you strength to live successfully. Theory's fine, and I'm sure we all could use some improvements on our way of looking at things... but ultimately, what matters most is what's consistently worked for you. I think that your beliefs about God and the world are fundamentally tied to how you approach life and accomplish your goals, so don't think you have to change them unless you've decided in your heart that you should. Be wise; use your innate reason to make decisions; but don't think you have to throw away your hopes simply because a bitter person chose to deride them.
