#2- Board Games

Here is something you should know about me: I love board games!  To me, one of the funnest things to do with people is play board games, and I love when I find groups of people who agree.  It's relaxing, tends to bring out the silly in people, gives you something to focus on and talk about to avoid awkwardness, is light competition ( Read more... )

Wow, I never knew this about you! I liked board games growing up, but my family were not "gamers," so I didn't play much until I made some friends in college who loved games. Then the guy I married ended up being a game enthusiast, too, so I'm sure there are many more games in my future. :) My favorite games tend to be word games that reveal something about the players -- I can't get enough of Apples to Apples or Loaded Questions, although I'm frustrated that those games require more than three people to be really fun. I try to stay on the lookout for games that can be played with two people. I'd be happy to play a game with you sometime -- Ivan probably would be up for it, too. :) (And I agree -- thift stores are GREAT for games -- I asked for Scattergories EVERY YEAR for Christmas, but since my parents weren't into games, I never got it. I finally made that Christmas wish come true when I found it at a Goodwill. :) I buy games for my library secondhand, too. I found a Harry Potter game that is my most popular game check out at the library for $2.50 in a thrift store.)

You should sign up for Coppergoose.com, which is a "prize" site geared toward geeks that often gives away new games or expansion packs for older games. (Also, Ivan runs the site, in the interest of full disclosure -- but there really are no "catches," so you won't get spammed or anything.)

That's so sad, that your family deprived you of games! I also love those big group games..didn't like Apples to Apples at first, as it's so arbitrary with no real rules, but it's really grown on me. I don't think I've ever played Loaded Questions. I think Scrabble is an excellent 2-person game. I'd (clearly) be up for playing a game. And I'll check out that site...is it mainly for video games though? Cause I'm not a video game person.

The site is geared toward geeks of many stripes -- so there are a fair amount of video-game related giveaways, but also a lot of board games, DVDs, comics, etc.
