I guess I'd like a post about my opinions of some of this year's movies.
But first:
An ode to the chip.
Salty
Greasy
Crunchy
Expert deliciousness.
And now onto that feel-good movie The Reader.
My choice for Best Picture. And finding out afterwards that it's directed by the same guy who directed The Hours, no WONDER it wrenched my emotions as it did.
Revolutionary Road. I never did form true verbalization of this movie beyond, "oh, the hopeless depression." I think I'll leave it at that. And go read the book for more internalizing. They should have made that movie longer, and had silent scenes with Leo and Kate (separately, and together) carrying it with their pure subtle emotional physicalizations, testing them to the epitomy of their ability. For some reason (if you've read the book you may understand) I actually wanted to see more of Frank alone at his desk, talking into the mic-thingie-whatever it's called.
The Curious Case of B. B. I liked the concept before I ever saw it. But I found the writing of the movie seriously mediocre. A bad ripoff of Forrest Gump, which it's hard to believe the screenwriter FOR Forrest Gump would do. Good quality filming, good acting, and such, but it needs some rewrites.
Doubt. Solidly done. In every respect. Not something I'd probably watch again, but yes, solid.
Rachel Getting Married. Liked the realistic (if not quite normal for how most people do a wedding!), documentary feel of it, very good acting by Anne Hathaway and the rest, unique.
Slumdog Millionaire. Fun (while also unfun story of course), cute concept, different stories/places than we're used to. Shouldn't win best picture though, but it will. Whoever knows for sure though but the envelope stuffer.
Other quality movies this year.. The Other Boleyn Girl, The Duchess (neither of which I thought I'd be that into but was); what else was there? Oh Changeling, that was good and also really creepy that it's based on truth. I know I saw other movies this year, but they escape me. The Rocker. Should've been nominated. (but seriously now, I did enjoy it)
This is bad- having the internet in bed. I could type away all night. While breathing in my cinnamon bun soy wax votive.
