TV blathering

First off, I highly recommend Harper's Island if you're a fan of slasher movies or murder mysteries. I think the description I gave for it was that it's Battle Royale meets Stephen King with a wedding party instead of a bunch of school kids. It's only thirteen episodes and ran for a single season. I devoured it fairly quickly. It was good.

I'd missed last week's episode to not being able to find a torrent, streaming sites hating me, and the CW's website sucking balls. However, I managed to find good torrents for all the episodes and watched 3 and 4 this evening.

I'm still loving Elena and the Salvatore brothers. The changes from the books are becoming more apparent but I'm finding that they improve the story in this format. A lot of the background in the books was kind of sparse and it feels like they condensed everything for the TV series. Despite the changes, the characters still feel like they do in the books.

I totally LOLed at Damon reading Twilight and his commentary on it. XD

It's still weird viewing Caroline as a sympathetic character but I sort of like her? I wibbled a little when she broke down and Elena hugged her. I do like that they played up the fact that they're friends whereas in the books they had a much more antagonistic relationship between them.

I'm hoping that now that Tanner's dead (just when I was starting to like the guy, too) this means that Alaric will be introduced soon and hopefully, Meredith along with him.

I'm quite comfortable with the take on Elena's and Stefan's relationship. In the books, I generally favored Damon ever so slightly but this? I actually really like Elena/Stefan. I cheered a little when Elena slapped Damon because it felt a lot more real and less contrived than it did in the books. I just like this take on Stefan. He's troubled but he takes it like a man for lack of a better phrase. Stefan's line about being stuck as a teenager being the pinnacle of happiness for him made me LOL, too. I really like the updated dialogue for this. It wasn't quite so witty in the books.

It's definitely an edgier show and campy as hell but I'm still liking it a lot. XD The end of the last episode had me going "what, WHAT?" but even so, I'm still entertained.

I'm starting to accept this Bonnie as Bonnie. It's taking time but the actress conveys a lot of the Bonnieisms pretty well and I can see this girl standing up to Damon later on quite easily. She's not as cute as Bonnie is in the books but I'm warming up to her.

More thoughts later when I'm not so tired. ♥

Next on the queue: Supernatural and the old Highlander TV series from the 90s. I've been interested in trying the former for a while and I watched the latter when I was a teenager. I love supernatural ghost chaser things and I've liked Jensen Ackles since he was on Days of Our Lives.
