Smiling for fame

My youngest sis was invited to audition again for Close Up to Fame 2. Remember last year, she was one of the 12 semi-finalists but she decided not to pursue it because it would intervene with her studies. Now, she's finished with her studies at Ateneo de Naga and has nothing to worry about except where to find work.

I told her to chill out for a while and see if she can get rackets for a while because I don't want her to work yet in call centers because of the crazy hours and work load. Maybe if it's a daytime account. But that would be the last option.

Anyway, she got herself an agency now, so she won't be duped in small TV commercials in the province paying only P4-5,00. But her TV exposure in local TV commercials helped anyway, to give her the confidence now. We are both under the same agency too. I'm bored and I won't lose anything by being under an agency in case they need me.

I was there to accompany her during the auditions at a hotel in Manila and it was funny they asked me if I'm joining too. "No, I am over age for this," I said. The minimum age requirement for this is 18-25 and I just turned 26, 2 days earlier. Either way, I think the males who auditioned are too young for me. All of the male and females who auditioned are of the teenybopper variety I would just look like an Ate to them. It didn't take long before the host, a radio DJ started a small talk with me ( where I live, where I work , hobbies etc.). The organizers, too warmed up to me that I find myself being asked to watch the auditions inside. It was quite a privilege because none of the other "stage mothers" or agents were able to watch the auditions inside the function room.

Man, it made my day. The spiels the auditioners say were hilarious. It was just like watching people who audition for American Idol because of their bloopers. I tried hard to keep my "lait" opinions to myself.

My sister made it to the pre-screening but she has yet to know if she makes it to the semis like last year. She was told to wait until Friday for the results. She's currently staying with me and will leave on Sunday. I hope, "di sya uuwi ng luhaan." If she didn't make it, I know there are other opportunities out there for a young woman in her early 20s. It's a different case for me who is now 4 years shy of being 30.
