*Flails* I don't know whether to scream or cry. Such an intense and emotional chapter - so confronting, quesitoning what one would do for their child, as well as the more subtle questioning of what makes a good parent?
In the show, Olivia was such a marshmallow around Emma, it was so sweet. This story is so apt in the characterisations, which I take it are from before Natalia softened Olivia's edges a little, and Olivia showed Natalia to stand up for herself. Although - living with zed's would do that too. ;)
It was definitely a tricky chapter. Hard to write in a lot of ways (and one that got written more than one way). I really wasn't sure about some of the choices, but in the end, even if they disturbed me, I decided it needed to happen. This is a hard place, rules are out the window. It's down to what you're willing to do.
Emma has always been Olivia's weakness in one way...something people could hit at to hurt her (dear god, that kid got kidnapped by everybody), but also her strength...the thing that made her most human, and kept her going. THis is definitely the harder version of Liv...but also a harder Natalia. It'll be interesting to see how they fit, complement each other in this reality.
Lessee, there's also Lizzie. She tried to cause Olivia a miscarriage, and threatened to kill Emma before she was born, then kidnapped her after she discovered she was still alive. Then Alan had Olivia locked up in a mental hospital in order to steal Emma (and constantly threatened to take her away). Marina also threatened Olivia with losing custody if she didn't confess to something or other (I honestly don't remember what). And there was the perfume drinking episode that Olivia thought was a revenge attempt by Ava (though it was an accident), but which sent her absolutely spiraling into nuttiness.
So pretty much, it's a history of people using her to get to Olivia in one way or another.
