Pointing Out the Obvious: Geocities and archiving

As has already been mentioned, with the end of the geocities hosting service, a lot of fan-fiction sites will be lost. Now, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of hosting services out there, and a quick Google search should be able to point you in the right direction (I'd recommend asking friends who have websites if they have any recommendations ( Read more... )

Thanks for the heads up on this ralst, I must have been in my cave when they announced geocities was closing, because I missed it.

If anyone knows of any sites on geocities that they are unsure are remaining open or that the webmaster doesn't want to continue, you're welcome to contact me and I'm happy to do some legwork contacting webmasters/authors. I'm also building my own archive site, so if anyone is interested in having their story hosted somewhere, I'm also happy to do that.

Hopefully the word is starting to spread. Over the years we've lost a lot of great sites and stories - though when I lost all my saved stuff I did say a huge thanks to the wayback machine :-)

If anyone is interested or you know of anyone interested in having their work saved in ebook format please let me know - I have a site I'm slowly building where fanfic is available in several different formats for reading on PDAs etc (site is here if your interested http://fanfic-4all.com/ebooks.html - I also have a multi-fandom archive you can find via way of that link if anyone wants to add their stories to it.
