{16th Case} Delivering bad news [Calls to France and Mia] (Action to the Crane household)

May 03, 2010 21:56

[He gulps to collect himself. He hated this part of his duty even when he was a constable. Delivering letters from those criminals that died in the cells or hung to family members was one thing but delivering bad news about a friend was entirely different.]

It is with a heavy heart that I have to tell you that Matthew also known as Canada chose to stay in Westport. His duty to find answers in the place was his choice.

As a friend and as a man, he was brave in his decision. He wanted me to inform you that he made his choice by his own free will to stop what threatens Mayfield from the inside. I regret to inform you that the road that lead to Westport has vanished and there is no way back to the town.

I am sorry for the loss though I am hopeful that he is doing his best. You have my sympathies.

[He hangs up the phone.]

~~~
[Once he hangs up the phone, he pinched the bridge of his nose and closes his eyes tightly. It took him three hours to bring up the nerve to make the call. It was all he could do to keep from breaking down. To put up the front of a brave man only behind closed doors does his anguish show. It was like watching Braum die all over again and to deliver the news to Katrina that he never did have the chance to deliver.
The first person he thought of going to was Lucrecia but he couldn't bring himself to stand up.]
I'm so sorry.
c: lucrecia, c: mia, life goes on, i hate my job, mayfield
