I went by the Seattle Folklife festival tonight and realized that this place is nothing like home.
And holy shit its cool.
We just walked around and got some mango lemonade, really just people watching.
It was a pretty similar to most 'fests I've been to back home except for a few things :
1. I got a picture of a little red headed child standing in front of some evangelist holding up a piece of cardboard that read
" Don't believe this shit"
2. Many, Many people on reefer. Smoking in public. Packing bowls in public. It was insane.
3. Meanwhile, there were only two - gated off - beer gardens in the whole place and they were far from packed.
4. Sporadic groups of people playing various instruments - hurdy gurdys, violins, banjos, accordions - in circles.
Also, theres a LOT of freaks and punks in this town. A lot of white kids with dreads ( I saw some with feathers in their hair today, felt compelled to join them) and, for as many 'races' as there are here I don't feel the racial divisions I'm used to.
Needless to say, I'm loving this place. Its a good surrogate city.
