So, I went to Borders to return a book my mom got me that I already read, A Walk in the Woods , the book that made me do trail work in the first place. I got
The Botany of Desire instead, which, I've really been wanting to read. Of course, it is amazing. The dude drops science in stories to seamlessly that you really start to catch on how simply botanic our li'l world is. He also mentions Thoreau & Emerson all the time, sort of putting his eggs in the transcendentalism basket, which, I LOVE. Of course, I read the cannabis essay first, and, of course, I thought it was spot-on.
Also, I saw at the store, this big old book called
WorldChanging which, as you can see, has a Blog of the same name. This book is like a new-hippie's encyclopedia. I think I came in my pants a little when I opened it. They talk about shit like Adbuster's red dot shoes (I'll find a link) the fucking Rural Studio Architecture school which I've long been in love with, and crazy shit that I thought no one would ever do like a portable, multi-lingual free book press-machine-van driving around Africa giving out free books. Crazy shit. So, yeah, momentarily, my faith in humanity is reinvigorated.
