Lazy America
So, Danni made a post yesterday that has got me all stirred up inside.
Why is it that everywhere you look, no matter how diverse our country is - everybody is doing the same thing. We'll start with graduating high school, and go all the way through retiring:
- You graduate high school, and things are looking good for you. You can make yourself into anything you want to be.
- You might go to college directly from high school, or you may not. You may never go - let's follow the path of somebody that did go to college, directly from high school.
- You work your ass of in college to make sure that the assload of $$$ your dumping on these classes is worth something.
- College goes by, you enjoy yourself quite a bit, and graduate with a decent GPA.
- You land a good job in the field of your study, and start working your way up in the company (start here if you went directly to a job out of high school)
- You get quite efficient in your position, and you get recognized for your efforts - you get promoted
- Couple years go by, and you are now well on your way up the corporate ladder.
- Your in your late 20's now, and hopefully have found a significant other to share the fruits of your work - and you get kids =)
- Your 30's come and go as a blur, your hard at work advancing at our profession - kids are growin up
- Several years go by, and you further enjoy your life's work by buying a nice house, couple cars
- Your breaching 40 now, and you have had some set backs, but now your an executive in your company - nice suit
- Your 50's roll in, and you just keep doing good, have a pretty good life, putting the kids through college - and hopefully your wife isn't aging like milk in the sun
- You finally hit that big 60, and work a couple more years towards retirement - great, you did it, you made it through the "young ages" of your life as a successful person, Congratulations =)
FUCK THAT!
We need to start enjoying the fucking ride people! Make something of yourself, start a hobby! Go out and break free! I hope that you see this as an opportunity to seize the day! *i know it's cliche*
People - go on a hike, do something you've never done before, go talk to a stranger, learn something that you knew nothing about before. We are capable of so much as human beings, but most people just let it go to waste by working their asses off to be "successful". When I look back on my life when I'm all old and wrinkly, I will be able to say that I had one HELLUVA time. Don't take this as a personal attack on your life, take it as a revalation to get your ass in gear. What is the point of having a bunch of cars, a big house, lots of CRAP? If you didn't have fun along the way, all your gonna do is sit back and go "Yup, look at all this stuff I have". Go join the art community, embrace diversity, FOR FUCK SAKE, DO SOMETHING!
I for one will break myself of this corporate dictatorship that is governing my life, and get involved! Even if you just get out every once and a while and contribute to a cause, it's worth it! It really is, I promise. Even if all you want to do is hate people, join the fuckin army! They will let you shoot people, pay for all your shit, and you get to travel the world!
So that's my rant. I hope that i've inspired at least one person to grab life by the balls.
