New England's had a lot of rain and flooding recently. Though we're on high ground and didn't get so much as a drop of water in our basement, Anne and I live quite near a river, the Pawtuxet, that got in the national news for its impressive flooding achievements.
This tree, um, normally grows on a rocky bank that juts out over the river.
Flood stage for the Pawtuxet is nine feet. Here's the river at about eighteen feet. It crested early the next morning at about 20.8 feet.
People came from all around to stare in amazement. The noise of the pounding waters was deafening.
