October Recap

Nov 01, 2005 21:59

For me, life is life. I take everything as it comes. October was the strangest month of my life with Rich; and I'm hoping November brings at least a little quiet time. (See the next paragraph.) In generally, I think I may be burning out and in need of a mommy break. Rich said the other day that I needed to get away for a day, but didn't go into how it should be done. It kind of made me mad; but I know he said it because he cares. Maybe after this close period at the Bank, I'll take a Saturday and go somewhere quiet and read and sleep for a whole day. It sounds so inviting.

Rich has been busy to say the least. He'd left for DC on October 12th to assist in setting up for the Discovery Channel’s Young Scientist Competition. Well it ended up that he was gone for 10 days. It was a really hard time for all of us. Ella was such a good girl for me; but she missed her daddy and I did too. So that put Rich back in town around 11:00 PM on the 21st. Then, I think it was on either the 24th or 25th that Jake (his foster father) asked him if he could or would go to NYC to setup smaller replicas of the exhibits from the competition for the "Today" show on NBC. So last week he was putting in 12-hour days helping to recreate the exhibits, which they finally finished on Friday and shipped to the studios. He left the house just around 6:00 this morning to fly up and will not be home until probably 1:00 AM on Friday. Just Rich and one other went; and from what I understand, they will be admitted to the studios around 3:00 AM tomorrow morning to set everything up and work out any kinks. Their time today and after the setup tomorrow is theirs to do with what they'd like. I can hardly wait to hear what he decides to do. I have to admit I'm terribly jealous in many ways. But I'm more glad that he's getting to experience this and even making money while doing so.

Ella is having a dickens of a time getting accustomed to the time change. And we are probably doing it wrong. We think she should adjust her internal clock to match the new one that the government has given us to work with. Doesn't seem to work that easily for kids. She has hit a new stage where she talks incessantly and there are real words in there to hear. She pretty well can repeat anything you say now and will store the words to use in context later. We've been watching our vocabulary closely. I learned that I not only say "Honey" a lot when I address her and Rich, but I use "Pumpkin" a lot too. She goes around saying "Oh, Honey" or "Oh, Pumpkin". Imagine please that sometimes the tone that accompanies "Oh, Pumpkin" is a little disappointed. Rich explained that he hears me say it to her when she's done something not so good, but I don't want to overreact. “I love you" seems to have been the start of this whole new chapter.

The new baby continues to measure and sound strong at the doctor's appointments. Next one is scheduled for Nov 16th. I think we may have a name. Last night, we decided on "Samuel Edward Stephens". It still may change. But we are both liking Samuel pretty well so I think that will stick. And Rich likes "Edward"; and even though I would maybe prefer "Edwin" ("Edward" can come off the tongue a little harsh), I can definitely live with it. This way our son can go by any number of aliases: Samuel, Sam, Sammy, Sami, Ed, Ward... Hee! Hee! And since we both like the sound of "Ed Stephens", that helps nail the "Edward" down. Thankfully, Rich dislikes the nickname Eddie as much as I do; so I don't think that will be a problem. Anyway, the gist... it's not a very unique name; but it seems to be strong. We'll see what happens now.

ob update, ella, dc
