There's nothing wrong in earning through teaching, even if its spirituality.
But a preacher can't practice opposite of what s/he professes, esp. in case of spirituality.
In this modern world, if you claim to be GOD, you are by default a conman. So the babas started
the guru funda which fits very well into the contemporary setup where we all look for guides, tutorials and manuals for almost everything.
The advantage is that you don't need to possess chamatkari shaktiyan. Just take a subset of ancient indian practices of food, yoga and philosophy, package it with a baba brandname and the world is your oyster. All fishes around you are fed up with something or the other problem. start preaching them, w/o fees even better. As what you are preaching is tried and tested over ages, its bound to work. Doing yoga like exercises would surely help people think better and do better. Philosophy would ease their mental stress and many of them might feel an infusion of new life. You start gaining popularity. Start organizing big gatherings(shivirs) which need chanda (devdas wali nahi ;), conduct specialized workshops and sell your books and ayurveda products. some of your affluent bhakts would help you create your first ashram (corporate office). Website and blog should also be in place by this time. Wikipage is a plus.
This is not the time to settle but think global. Slowly start expanding your operations to other parts of the world. Don't forget to open hospitals, universities and schools with x% of those crores you earn as it is not only part of corporate social responsibility but also an investment to build the belief infrastructure for your organization.
Last but not the least, learn something from our nityanand maharaj and always get your deed-room sting-proof. :)
