Today I went out for an easy 8 miler. (I love that fact that an 8 miler now sounds both easy and exciting to me.) No real goals in mind for the day, I just wanted to finish and complete the training.
During my run today, I stopped for a brief moment for a cat and dog. Normally dogs are a nuisance while running, they chase after you and bark. Some even try to attack. Some are unfortunately successful in their attack. This time, I stopped for them.
During my first run around the neighborhood, I noticed a dog laying in a yard near the road. (In my subdivision). He looked lonely but content. He didn't bark or really even move for that fact. He just followed me with his eyes and then laid his head back down. I had never seen this dog before.
During my second lap, I noticed a small orange cat curled up next to the dog resting. I recognized the cat. It likes to follow you if you walk near it and is a pretty friendly little fellow. With the dog and the cat together, something didn't look right. I stopped my run to investigate. The cat walked up to me immediately and begged for attention and the dog still didn't move. After some gentle coaxing, the dog finally hobbled over to us, shivering. I couldn't see any visible injuries but you could tell he wasn't comfortable. Kenny and I stood with him for about 5 minutes before continuing my run. He didn't have any tags on and we couldn't figure out who he belonged to.
On my third and fourth round of the area, the dog was gone. I am hoping that he made his way home. He worried me all run long.
Sigh... good thoughts for the doggie.
I am only 1 month and 5 days away from the Disney Marathon. Time has flown by ridiculously fast.
