So it has been a while since my last post. My mileage didn't work out as well for the weekend like I had though. Main problem was I didn't get in 9 miles on Saturday because of dangerous weather, Sarah and I were both bummed. But I was able to do my 5K, which brings us to...
Tip Tuesday...My Germantown 5K Race Review
I registered for Germantown about 2 weeks ago once I realized I would be in town for work at the same time. They have a 5K and a Half Marathon and I would have loved to register for the Half but work called and I just didn't have enough time to run 13.1.
I am totally happy I ran the 5K because I rocked it. I finally got my Sub 40 5K! It was a PR by 3 minutes and I am thrilled. Final time according the the race was 39:26 at a 12:44 pace. The garmin said it was a 3.15 mile run and my pace was 12:31. Either way it was hella fast and I am happy.
I was also very fortunate to run this race with some family which was really nice. Jacqui, Ellen, Suk Hui and myself all ran the 5K and Matt ran the Half. Suk Hui and Ellen even won awards. They are my extended family through my DH (his aunt, uncle and cousins). I enjoyed hanging out with them at the race and will have to make time to visit them next time I travel in their area.

This race was very well organized and the people were Oh so friendly. I must of had 5 people stop me because I was wearing my Disney shirt and ask me about the race. I even saw a few other Disney fans who ran this year wearing their shirts. I opted for the morning packet pick up so I am not sure how the expo was. Packet pick up was really easy and smooth.
I really liked this course. It was pretty residential and had what I called tiny rolling hills for the 5K. I have heard that the Half is much hillier. The hills were good training but nothing you couldn't handle. If I can do them and PR... you know they weren't terrible.
The race had 5 port-a-potties which only seemed to have a line right before the start. There were also indoor restrooms to use. It is an event organized by The Start to Finish Event Management Cooperation in Memphis and the finish line was awesome. They had out a huge blow up arch and also had a prelim mat so that they could announce runners as they came in the finish chutes.
Post race they offered the usual water, cookies, bananas, grapes, bagels, etc. I was just happy for the carbs. The awards ceremonies were held promptly and they even printed the results and posted them at the finish line so that you could check your official time. This is definitely a race I would do again. I am just hoping to catch the half next time.
