friday: got lost in hunter's point/bayview.... showed up 45 minutes late to training and had to dance like a chicken as a consequence.... gawd americorps is so much better than a real job.
dinner at emeryville world market. wheeeeeeee.
saturday: cal game... started with mexican food from la calaca loca (the crazy skeleton) on 51st and telegraph. next, the anti-climactic march to victory... next, sitting in the stadium before the 90 min countdown clock started.
THE GAME WAS AMAZING.
my parents were so happy that they took me and bbg grocery shopping in the city afterwards.... at 10:30pm in the sketchiest safeway i've ever been to (it's in inner richmond, fyi).
today: bought socks. much needed.
i talked with
jagcix earlier about life in the city. while it's fun and i enjoy it, ultimately i do not intend to live here. part of the reason i enjoy it so much is because i know i'll be living elsewhere in the future. the city is just a novelty for me, not really a lifestyle. and this is not to knock the amazingly incredible people i've met who have lived in the city for their entire lives.... i've just realized (in the six weeks ive been here), that im not so much a urbanite deep down inside.
i think it's the rush of it all, my ever constant feeling of discomfort and caution where ever i go. maybe that has more to do with where i spend the bulk of my time, but still. im well aware of the nice spots in the city, but it's still the city. still urban with houses crunched up against each other, little yard, and exposed to a busy street. my kids at school dont know how to ride a bike because it's too dangerous to learn.... there's a whole program dedicated to teaching kids how to ride bikes! which is great, but come on! i have 13 year olds who ride muni home after school from north beach to daly city! seriously!
it's probably just because this is so different from my own up bringing that i can't really accept it. something i dont think i could've imagined for myself.
of course, this could all change.
