going from doing nothin all day to action packed-ness.... ive been busy.
wednesday daily cal kids came out to the city and our day was basically a glorified lunch at cheesecake factory. see also: facebook pics.
thursday was a shopping extravaganza - groceries! which isnt too hard if you have a car, but somewhat of a task when you have nothing but your feet and a roller bag for the next six blocks... which are mostly uphill. also: two buck chuck from trader joe's, rolls of quarters, other uninteresting misc items.
then, it was the first official bar night. so, apparently, law students have this thing call bar nights (double meaning, haha), where.... uh.... everyone goes to a bar and gets drunk.... on thursdays. pretty awesome routine, if you ask me. it's a place to be social, get drunk and hook up, or whatever. since it's the first of the year, hella people were there. cool bar called
poleng a few block from campus, looks really upscale, but laid back and not so.... cooler than thou. went with (following
my_funny_cousin's example) law school tiff and law school ryan, who are two kids (altho they're a few years older) bbg met at various times and have become friendly with. ended up blowing all of our cash monies on beer... and then spending some of law school ryan's cash as well. but he was being nice/mean, being a bad influence and all, so it was ok. met more law students, all of whom seem incredibly nice. oh hey, ronald cruz is at usf law. that's interesting. fun times. only slightly queezy in the morning.
friday - the beginning of orientation/training for my new jobbie @ ymca in oakland. 10am - 5pm of "orienting", which beforehand seemed like a little much... and after hand, still seemed like too much. started with paperwork.... then some touchy feely exercises.... then info about what americorps is, what are our benefits, lunch, ice breakers, etc etc etc. got some clothes! im typically into club wear, so i was excited. gray sweatshirt and tshirt, plus black tshirt and black long sleeved shirt. neat.
met some cool people. there are about 100 members throughout the bay area, 20 or so of which are in sf/marin. i met the one member i'll be working with at the same site (chinatown beacon/gordon j. lau elementary). her name is liana!!!!!!!!!!! how funny is that? (my sister's name is leanna - pronounced the same). some of the members, somewhat surprisingly, are a bit older.... 40s - ish. some are only slightly older (mid 20s, altho i realize im not toooooo far from that). some are younger (not out of hs). good mix of people. should be interesting.
weekend will be spent in berkeley.... wheeeeeeee.... then off to a three day/two night retreat for bayac americorps.... and.... eh.... three solid days, i'll try to keep up the energy.
