Layer guide for more complicated icons and even your basic, standardized dying.

So, I told Box I'd show her how I did layers. This basically is now a quick and dirty guide to layer spiffiness!

THIS IS SO IMAGE HEAVY IT ISN'T FUNNY.

Because I love Tomo and her connection. )

Hello! Awesome tutorial, it's fun to see how different our techniques are :P. As it is, there is only one point where I feel I can give some meaningful input: resizing. You... really shouldn't have to re-size multiple times just to get the result you want. Have you tried different compression types? Since I fail at clarity I made a chart instead. Behold!

And if your image editor offers a Lanczos resize, that can sometimes be even sharper than Bicubic.

Oh man! WHERE WERE YOU MY LAST ICON SET ALL MY LIFE? This looks like it'll save a lot of time! I linked down here and will definitely be trying this myself. This looks so much easier. [Pouncehugs!]

I REALIZE NOW. YOU SOMETIMES MAKE THINGS EASIER THAN I MAKE THEM WHEN I DO THINGS LIKE THIS.

*SOB* WHY DO I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT PHOTOSHOP ♥

PHOTOSHOP IS YOUR FRIEND! Even though I use image ready more! I USED TO COLOR BY HAND, PIXEL BY PIXEL, THEN I REALIZED... "THIS HURTS MY HAND. THERE HAS TO BE ANOTHER WAYYYYYY."

I feel I should add that, for those of us who can't afford Adobe Photoshop, you can also get all of this same functionality in many other image editors, including free ones such as Serif PhotoPlus and (even better) free and Open Source ones such as The GIMP.

The controls have pretty much the same names, they just won't always be in the same places.

Thanks! I worked in photoshop simply because it's what I'm most familiar with, and it what I hear most people referring to. But it's a good suggestion! I added it to the end!
