I don't give people money anymore, I used to, occasionally, but now I've worked in my field too long.

I tend to follow the philosophy, "If you give someone a dollar, they'll bitch at you for not giving them two dollars."

Or, "Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, he'll tell you to fuck off and go find someone else to give him a fish."
