25 Truths About Tonhyuk
H.O.T - Tonhyuk
1325 words; PG-13/R
Tonhyuk's relationship over the course of time.

1. When Tony joins H.O.T., he has a girlfriend back home waiting for him.

Despite this, he can't deny the faint attraction he feels when he is introduced to his bandmate, Woo Hyuk. It isn't so bad, he thinks. If you squint your eyes and tilt your head a certain way, he sort of looks a girl, so it's understandable. After all, it's not like he's gay.

2. When Woo Hyuk joins H.O.T., he leaves home without confessing to the girl he likes, and mentally beats himself over the head for his cowardice.

Still, he can't deny the vague attraction he feels when he is introduced to his new bandmate, Tony. It's just a phase, he thinks. He would outgrow it soon, and his damn teenage hormones would stop screwing with his head. After all, it's not like he's gay.

3. Jae Won is the youngest member of the group. When Woo Hyuk and Tony first greet each other, he is the only one to notice that their gazes lock and hold a fraction of a second longer than they should have. Kang Ta is too lost in his daydreams of fame and fortune, and Hee Jun too enthralled by the prospect of making new friends to really see them. But Jae Won sees and knows, and doesn't say a word.

4. Their first kiss is entirely accidental. Tony is just exiting his hotel room when he catches sight of Woo Hyuk. He calls out to him, and Woo Hyuk waits. In Tony's hurry to catch up, he trips over his untied shoelace and goes down, arms flailing. Woo Hyuk turns instinctively to catch him, but loses balance himself in that critical moment when Tony's weight crashes into him. They topple to the ground, and, against all odds, Tony's lips land squarely on Woo Hyuk's.

The two avoid eye contact for weeks.

5. Unbeknownst to Woo Hyuk, five days after that incident, Tony calls his girlfriend, and breaks up with her.

Unbeknownst to Tony, two days after that, the girl Woo Hyuk has a crush on calls him. She confesses that she has liked him for the past two years. Quietly, Woo Hyuk rejects her.

6. Their second kiss is out of necessity. Hee Jun pushes Tony into the deep end of the pool, not realizing that he can't swim. Woo Hyuk is forced to dive in and rescue him.

He lays Tony's body carefully on the cement and looks at the others, expecting one of them to take over the job from there. When none of them do, he sighs in annoyance and performs the mouth-to-mouth himself.

7. When their manager announces that the two would be sharing an apartment, Tony and Woo Hyuk glance up at each other.

Tony is the first to look away.

8. Woo Hyuk first christens Tony "Monkey Boy" when he catches sight of the other on the sofa, watching TV. He is sitting in the strangest position, hunched over, knees drawn to his chest, feet flat against the sofa cushion. He is staring at the television with a wide-eyed fascination and munching on a banana.

9. Tony wakes up one night at 2 AM from a nightmare. Half-asleep, he trudges into Woo Hyuk's bedroom and demands for the other boy to move over. Disoriented and confused, Woo Hyuk complies. Tony immediately collapses onto the bed and falls back asleep, curling against Woo Hyuk's body.

It is a long, long time before Woo Hyuk can sleep.

10. Tony wakes up that morning at 7 AM. He opens his eyes, and sees Woo Hyuk's face inches from his own. He takes a deep breath and screams bloody murder. Woo Hyuk groans; he had finally managed to fall asleep at 6:30 AM.

11. Their third kiss is the one Tony counts as the first. In their apartment, Tony lies across the sofa, his head pillowed on Woo Hyuk's lap. He eats some of the popcorn from the bowl he balances on his chest. Occasionally, he feeds some pieces to Woo Hyuk. Neither of them is really watching the cheesy horror movie playing on the TV screen.

Suddenly, Woo Hyuk bends over and presses his lips to Tony's. He pulls away, and Tony blinks once, twice. Then he carefully places the bowl of popcorn on the floor, gets up, crawls onto Woo Hyuk's lap, and kisses him.

12. That night, as Tony is panting against Woo Hyuk's body, he wonders how the hell he could have found Woo Hyuk feminine.

Then white-hot pleasure shoots up his spine and he loses any coherent train of thought.

13. For Woo Hyuk's birthday, Tony buys him a beautiful ring. A wedding ring, Tony says jokingly.

For his birthday the month after, Woo Hyuk presents him with a matching ring, in front of all their fans. Tony fights the urge to cry.

14. When Kang Ta first learns of their relationship, he squeals at fangirl frequency and goes starry-eyed with joy. He begs Woo Hyuk for a double date with Hee Jun and him. Woo Hyuk politely but firmly declines.

15. Kang Ta, naturally, spills the secret to his lover. When Hee Jun finds out, he teases Tony mercilessly about being the girl in the relationship.

16. Jae Won is the last person Tony and Woo Hyuk tell about their relationship. He looks at them with raised eyebrows and informs them that he hadn't been born yesterday.

17. Sometimes, the two flirt, or embrace, or hold hands, or kiss each other's cheeks, in full view of the cameras. And they smile, because they know the fans enjoy it.

In the rare times they're in public and manage to avoid cameras or fans, they still embrace, and kiss, and hold hands. Somehow, these moments are so much more precious.

18. Tony has told Woo Hyuk that he loves him several times. These are more statements of fact than anything, like two and two equal four and it's raining outside, so he should probably take an umbrella. He doesn't expect Woo Hyuk to answer.

19. Woo Hyuk never tells Tony that he loves him. But sometimes, when their bodies are writhing together on his bed, their bed, their faces hidden in shadow, Woo Hyuk whispers those words, very faintly, against Tony's skin. His fingers interlace with Tony's, and their rings catch against each other. Tony hears him.

20. Even if he didn't, it wouldn't matter. Even through the darkness, Tony can always see Woo Hyuk's eyes, and those same words are always etched there.

21. When H.O.T. announces their break-up, Woo Hyuk's face is stoic. But when they return home, Tony lets him cry silently on his shoulder.

22. If Tony is jealous when Woo Hyuk dances with that girl during the One Night Lover performances, he doesn't say so.

But when the girl writhes on his lap indecently during the next portion of the song, Tony always remembers to shoot him that vindictive smile.

23. Tony watches Woo Hyuk's solo performance on TV thoughtfully. Out of habit, he touches his shirt, feeling for the ring tucked away underneath. He wonders where the hell they went wrong.

24. Woo Hyuk has difficulty sleeping, unaccustomed to the empty space between his arms. He tries hugging a pillow, but it's not the same. A pillow isn't warm. It doesn't breathe, and it doesn't have soft hair he can bury his fingers in.

25. When they see each other again, both realize that not much has changed.

Tony tastes Woo Hyuk's lips against his own, Woo Hyuk feels Tony's heartbeat against his own, and they're both the same.

Running his hand down Woo Hyuk's chest, he feels an odd bump under his shirt. When he pulls it out, he finds himself looking at their ring, strung on a necklace. He both laughs and cries, showing his own necklace to Woo Hyuk.

Woo Hyuk grips his hand tightly and doesn't let go.
