Drabble prompt from
therese_chan: Yasuba, Yasu mourning the loss of Subaru's long hair?
"Oh, you cut it!" Yasu blurts out when Subaru walks into the dressing room.
"Actually no, it all spontaneously fell out last night," Subaru deadpans. "I was just getting used to being a bald old man, but then this morning this much had regrown."
Yasu giggles. "It looks nice," he says.
Subaru sits down next to him on the sofa. "Really?"
Yasu looks at him with a puzzled smile. "Sure!"
"You didn't used to like when I had it cut," Subaru says, more softly. "Before." There's nothing accusing in his voice, just something that makes Yasu stop, and think, and remember.
"Well, I thought it was cool when you used to plait it and put braids in and colour it. Do you remember that time you had it all backcombed, and I painted your face? I thought you looked cool." Yasu smiles gently. "But I understand why that's not something you want to do anymore."
Subaru, for a reason he can't quite explain, feels the need to apologise. "Sorry."
Yasu laughs. "You don't need to say sorry, it's your life. And your hair," he says. "And hey, I never went blonde again either. Not since... then," he finishes, as if he can't quite remember when or why he didn't.
Subaru smiles faintly, leans against Yasu's shoulder. "Every so often it's good to start again, afresh, right?"
Yasu looks at him and smiles. "Whenever you want."
