The Great Escape

May 04, 2007 10:55

I woke up this morning to the sound of cutlery being thrown around.
"That's odd," I thought, so I sat up to see a guilty looking little rat face looking up at me from the middle of the room, sitting on a dinner plate surrounded by toast crumbs.

Wow. My first escapee!

I suppose it would be traditional to be annoyed, but I'm really proud of Blue Rat - it took a lot of strength and ingenuity to get out of that cage! He'd discovered that the door is held closed by springs, and by pushing hard against it he could create a gap that he could squeaze his head through and then prise the rest of himself out. At least, I assume that's how he did it, there was a little gap in the door but I was asleep when he got out. I don't think he'd been out long, but it was long enough to eat the remains of my toast from last night, chew up some bits of paper and find where I keep the bags of treats!

I've checked all the wiring, he hasn't nibbled anything and I haven't found any little rat-raisin deposits, so it looks like he was very well behaved, just hungry and curious. He really wasn't keen to go back in, but the others all came running to hear his story and give him a big "welcome home" grooming.

Clever little rascal.
