Magpie's Happiest Day Ever In Forever!

Why, who is that gorgeous geeky hippie with her arm around Bill Bailey? Good gravy, it's me!!!

Pinter's People was pretty good, a few sketches fell a bit flat, but there were a couple of real gems. "Victoria Station", a conversation between a taxi controller and one of his drivers, was amazing. I actually snorted with laughter. I'm going to give you bullet points of the highlights, because it's easier than trying to compose sentences when all I really want to do is tell you about meeting Bill :P

* Sally Phillips is v v v pretty in real life, but sadly she's in moo-mode, all bulbous and puffy with a half-developed human inside her. Pregnancy is one of the least attractive things in the world. It's even more distrubing when you really quite fancied the incubator previously.
* Bill looks very odd with his hair all clipped up to look short
* Kevin Eldon should be in more stuff, he was really, really good.
* Kevin Eldon has a fantastic bottom! We really weren't expecting that, either to see it or for it to be that gorgeous. I'm still in a bit of shock, I'd never thought of him in that light before but goodness me, that's a very good arse!
* Bill Bailey wore a tailcoat. I felt all my insides turn upside down. If I hadn't been seated, I think I would have fainted. He also had a gorgeous swirly brandy glass, and a big cigar, but woefully not in the same sketch.
* "New World Order" was a sketch involving Bill and Kevin in suits, circling a blindfolded man telling him "you have no idea what we're going to do to you...we haven't even started with you yet..." - that is all. Yes. Mmm.
* Sally Phillips' ability seems to vary greatly, she was superb in "Tess", but in a couple of sketches with Geraldine Mcnulty she was..umm, not so good.
* Everyone else in the (very small) audience must have been about 60. We felt amazingly out of place in a posh theatre surrounded by middle class, middle aged, expressionless people.

So anyway, there was a show, but most of the day was about teh Billness.

On our way in, we were just walkiing up the street chattering about "just think, Bill's somewhere within a hundred yards of us right now..." when I looked up and he was walking towards us! I was struck absolutely senseless, but Brionyalissa had a surge of starstruck energy and squealled very loudly "ooooh, BILL!!". Hee hee! He looked up and we grinned and waved. He gave us a manic smile and increased his pace to run round the corner, lol! It was only about 20 minutes before the show started, so he clearly wouldn't have had time to talk to us. But at least he noticed us :D Briony was quite embarrassed about her outburst, but I was so proud of her! She made Bill Bailey look at us, how can it be bad?

After the show we sprinted round the back to find the stage door, which was hard to do since there was a lot of building work going on and most of the street was covered in scaffolding. We got hooted at by multiple builders, which was rather disturbing. When we got round the back there were two other fangirls hanging around waiting to meet Bill - it was reassuring not to be on our own, but I always feel a bit defensive in a loser-ish "I'M his biggest fan!" kind of way. I'm not proud of myself, but I can't help it. Kevin Eldon came out while we were giggling together, the other girls didn't know who he was (amateurs!) so we missed him. Shame, I would have liked an autograph from him. Sally and Geraldine came out in a bit, but Sally saw us and started talking on her phone. I'm quite sure there was no-one on the other end, it was an avoidance tactic. Bitch. I really wanted to meet her. Rapidly going off her now.

It was about 5 minutes before Bill came out (fashionably late, so starry) and we all squealled and ran over! He seemed a bit surprised to see a gaggle of fangirls, but that could just be his usual bewildered demeaner! The other girls went first, they got their programmes signed (he wrote them little messages like "this is the actual writing of Bill Bailey", and put their names on it :() and they got him to write a message for their friend Jennie - "She's, like, your ultimate fan! But she can't be here 'cause she's studying engineering at Cambridge" bah! I'm not proud of it, but that was like a red flag to me. If she's an "ultimate fan", she'd have made the effort! I made a 10 hour round trip and spent my last few pennies to get there! "With respect, she is not your ultimate fan..." I'm a little ashamed of myself, but thankfully no one responded. They shook hands and buggered off.

Bill signed my programme! I scrabbled around to find a page with him on it, so he drew a big arrow to point out which one he was! He didn't ask my name :( But I had my Insect Nation bag with me, which I showed him and asked him to sign. He was most impressed! He noticed all the insects and their referrences to the song, and said "wow" a lot. He said it was "a thing of beauty". The pen I'd brought worked brilliantly at home, but (sod's law) as soon as it was in Bill's hands it decided to give up, so the signature is very faint. I'm going to embroider over it quickly before it fades. We apologised for being the nutters who screamed at him on his way in, but he said it was quite all right. I'm sure he's used to it.

He was so utterly lovely, it felt like talking to someone I know. Mind you, when you think about, watch, read about, listen to, draw pictures of, make 100 icons of and - let's be honest - fantasise about a person for about 18 months solid, you do sort of feel like you know them. :S I can completely see how stalkers get started! He was even prettier in real life, I think TV and stage lighting washes him out a bit, in natural light he looks a lot younger. The flash on my camera was a bit unflattering to him as well, sorry Bill! We asked to take pictures with him and he was completely lovely about it. I'd conspired with Briony beforehand to get a few seconds of video "accidentally", but it didn't come out very well. I'll try and screenshot it a bit later, but I looked terrible thanks to the angle so I think I might just stick with the photo for now. *Squeeeeee* I got to put my arm around Bill, and he put his round me! I got a bit giddy, but I think I was surprisingly composed throughout the meeting. I gabbled a bit, OK a lot, but I didn't say anything utterly stupid. I didn't ask to touch his hair, I think we'd already bugged him for enough favours. I'm sure I'll meet him again, I'll do it next time. However, looking at the photo, most of my dreads were behind my shoulder, and remembering where his hand was on me (like I will ever forget!) I think he might have touched my hair, so that's halfway there, lol! I took a picture of him with Briony as well, she's so wee he got his arm right round her, grrr :P

So we said a giggly goodbye to Mr. Bailey, but not before we asked him if he had a light. He didn't, but did the instinctive body-patting anyway. Bless him. We watched him walk all the way down the street - he was just walking off to get his dinner, like a normal human person. God I love Bill.

We went home via Victoria Station, and bought an obscene amount of Krispy Kreme donuts to take back. We don't have any branches in the North, so we got two double-dozens to keep us going. The bus on the way back was hellish, we just couldn't sleep and the people around us were having the most inane conversations ever. So we got our own back by playing the shopping list game, mwahahaha!

This has been very long and garbled, sorry if I've forgotten things, or it's riddled with typos. I'm not going to stop giggling for about 3 weeks. Bill Bailey is my god, and yesterday I touched The Allmighty. *squeeing still*
