Apparently Beyoncé Knowles has expressed an interest in playing Wonder Woman. Thoughts?
Well, it'd be a better choice than Megan Fox, IMO. At any rate, more important than the casting choices to be made if WB ever gets its act together and gets a decent script, I think, is what Beyoncé says here:
“I love Wonder Woman and it'd be a dream come true to be that character. It sure would be handy to have that lasso. To make everybody tell the truth? I need that. It would come in very handy."
Warner Bros is just plain stupid if they don't cash in on a Wonder Woman movie sometime soon. Whether it's through Lynda Carter, Superfriends, JLU, DC comics, random merchandise or general pop culture references, everyone knows who Wonder Woman is. They recognize the costume, they know the Lasso of Truth, and they know she's just as tough as Superman.
If they can just get a creative team behind it who is as dedicated and takes it as seriously as the people behind Batman Begins and The Dark Knight were, they'll have a goldmine on their hands. Sure, there are many routes they could take, many interpretations they could make, but I can't help but think at least one route, one interpretation is better than none. And it'll open the doors for more in the future.
It won't be perfect, fans and comic readers will likely have plenty to nitpick (I am likely to be among them), but it could still be fantastic. Ever since the whole
Jeff Robinov/WB movie thing last year, I can't squelch the feeling that it'll mean something huge, something awesome, if we get a good WW movie.
As for Beyoncé, it's been a while since I've seen her act in anything, but hey, it sounds as though she at least grasps the power and importance of such a role. She might be able to do it with good coaching and direction.
In any case, still looking forward to the
animated direct-to-DVD Wonder Woman movie that DC/WB is putting out next year.
