Currently for Kappa's veggie mix I chop all the ingredients, cook half of them, add supplements, freeze it all, and give her the appropriate amount daily. Feeding fresh veggies daily is not an option for me due to things such as my personal schedule and how long veggies can keep before it goes bad. I have recently discovered what a dusky conure croon sounds like. Instead of being the really adorable static-like noise that cockatiels make when begging for scratches or food, it sounds more like someone gargling rocks. I'm afraid I have to admit I find the sound not really pleasant, but knowing what it means from context, I think I can learn ( Read more... )

I suspect only another bird nut will appreciate this post. Kappa's always surprising me with her smarts in little ways. She was nearly housebroken on her own when I first got her - she doesn't like to poop on me, and she does like to poop right after moving to a new place or right before flying, so it was exceedingly simple to train her to wait ( Read more... )

And, a bit over a month after I said I'd post them, pictures of Prosody, approximately 53 grams of white-eared conure who has been bossing me around since January 2nd. She's going to be 19 weeks old tomorrow.
Having finally got back the test results, Prosody is in fact female which is good because we'd been using she since we brought her home.

Since Kappa (dusky conure) has taken her first purposeful flight earlier this week, I want to help her practice steering, landing, etc. "Everyone" says the way to do this is to toss your bird into the air.
