Hello, long time no talk! Life has been fun and interesting. My birds are all doing fine. Jackjack my Amazon is stellar. Sadie, my Blue and Gold, after her regular vet visit needs to trim a few grams. Shes still in the 'healthy' weight range, but she likes her nutri berries too much. :p Tiels are forever happy and content. :3 ( Read more... )

That's allright. And I use clicker training on all of my animals, to an extent and depending on what behaviour I want to enforce. That's just whats frustrating for her, we have 'sessions' daily. Depending on her. Some will be working for hours some just minutes. but then the next day, back to square one. I've never seen this in any bird I've worked with. And it's only step up. I also worked with her to show her pretty wings. Clciker trained that and moved on to not having to click at all and she takes her hand commmands. But with step up, to be honest, it's like a game to her. I swear I know she knows the process, considering she even says 'step up' cause I say it so often to my other birds.

And I always make traiing fun for them, her treats in particular are pre shelled pine nuts, but again I go in, do our fundemental 'clicks' then when it comes to stepping up... nothing. I feel like there must be some noncontingent reinforcement that I'm doing.

She only gets her pine nuts when I train, barirng the few times of a 'reward for nothing.'
And I don't work with her until she wants to, but really, something so little as step up shouldn't be a problem. Which is why I feel I'm not doing right by her, and it breaks my heart.

Sadie, with operant conditioning and positive reinforcement training, she can 'spin', wave hi, play dead, and 'stick em up' and are now branching further and doing amzingly well with target training.
JackJack, same thing, except his are vocal cues. and he dosen't do 'spin.' lol
My dog and cat all respond with it.

Other animals I've worked with I've had amazing results, and now I'm just and a dead end as to what I did right by them, and so horribly wrong with her. But even though she's over a year old (which by all count's still a baby) she does things she she be well passed age wise. still bobbing for food, she still does the 'baby sighs' and still wants to fold up in your arms when she does actually step up. So I suppose just like a human, she could just be a late bloomer (which juding by her past could happen.) But I really just feel like I'm running and endless circle with her.
