Hi, this is an introductory post and some questions.
I just brought home a white-eared conure named Prosody who is adorable and very sweet (although I'm aware that a lot of this is being a recently weaned baby and likely to change). Still waiting on the DNA sexing results so I'm not sure if it's a boy or a girl. Pictures will happen when I get the bird to sit still long enough to actually allow a picture that isn't really blurry.
On to the questions-
First, I've got a lot of trees near my house and I wanted to check in particular about hazel in particular- is it safe for birds and is there anything I should do to the branches before giving them to the bird? I was planning on putting it in the oven at low-ish temperature for a bit to kill off any bacteria but I wasn't sure if that was enough.
Second, I was wondering if anyone had advice on socializing birds, in the hope of getting them used to meeting strangers on a regular basis? I'm in the process of applying for grad school so, other than me, it's likely that the people I live with will change on a semi-regular basis.
Thanks in advance.
