Summer Treats

Now that it's almost summer and we've had a taste of the brutally hot and humid weather to come, I've started coming up with ways to keep my pets cool and comfortable.

I feed my birds homemade food, which I freeze in ice cube trays. I usually pull a few cubes out and thaw them in the fridge for the following day, but lately I've been taking them out of the freezer, chopping them coarsely, and putting them into my birds' foraging toys frozen.

You can do the same thing by storing your pellets in the freezer and taking each day's portion directly from there.

I also keep chunks of frozen bird bread in the freezer. I pull them out, stick them in a foraging toy, and give them to my birds on hot days. (On cold days, I put them in the toaster oven for a few minutes.)

You can also freeze fruits and veggies for your birds.

I put ice cubes in my furry pets' water dishes, but I haven't done that for my birds. I may try it once the summer really starts cooking.

What tricks do other folks use to help their birds keep cool in the summer?
