School and Wolf

I started back at school last week. Man it's going to be a ROUGH RIDE. I just THOUGHT last semester was stressful. I AINT SEEN NOTHIN' YET.

Quizzes and homework EVERYDAY. Basically I have to study every day which is what I did last semester anyway, because I have to go over and over something to get it. But with this it's go over it in class and have a quiz the next day. I mean GEESH, do they want to kill me?

Wolf was in pain all weekend. I felt so bad. I didn't want to take him to the emergency vet because they are so expensive and also I don't like going anywhere but my vet.

If he had been as bad as he was at one point Sat. night I would have taken him. At one point he hurt so bad and couldn't walk, he just flopped over on his side and laid there with his arm making these jerky movements.

But then it would pass and he would walk around, sometimes with a limp, sometimes not. It was really weird.

But mostly I could tell he was in some sort of pain. I actually gave him an extra half of a pain pill a day than was prescribed to him. He normally gets 1/2 tab of Rimadyl twice a day. Because of his pain, I usually ended up giving him one in the morning, one around 1 or 2 and then one at night.

I was SO GLAD my vet was open today. If she wasn't I was going to have to take him somewhere else. She was totally booked but they worked me in which I was so glad. They don't always do that. Maybe it was because he was in pain.

I had prepared myself all weekend of having to put him to sleep. I just knew she was going to tell me it was his back and there was nothing she could do.

She examined him and couldn't find anything wrong by feeling everything other than a grindy elbow which shouldn't cause this level of pain. The x-rays showed nothing. From what I described of the way he would hold his arm up and it would jerk towards the back of his body, she told me he was having muscle spasms, most likely caused by a pinched nerve in his neck due to what we already know of his back pain. The pinched nerve causes the muscle to spasm and then the muscle spasm pinches the nerve, and it's just a vicious cycle.

SO, she gave me a muscle relaxer to give him, and a pain blocker to give him in addition to the Rimadyl he is already taking. So now everyday he has 3 pills to take, 1 twice a day, and the other 2 three times a day. He is all conked out now from all the dope.

Plus he has to wear a sweater to help keep his muscles warm. The muscles get cold, which lead to shivering, which leads to exaserbating the muscle spasms.

If he's not better by Wed., I am to let her know. Fingers crossed.
