I was asked to post some new pictures of Lenore, and quite frankly she'd be furious if she knew I hadn't been showing the internet how beautiful she is. ;) So you asked, you shall receive!
A bit of an update on her: she's now four years old(!), still quirky and lovable, and currently in the worst molt I've ever seen her have. There are feathers ALL OVER my bedroom. She's able to do most of the work herself, but the feathers on her head/neck I take care of about once a week. It's amazing how many pinfeathers that bird can get in a few days. Her head always looks a bit frumpy because my fingers aren't anywhere near as talented as a beak, and I apologize to her for that, but she still tolerates me doing it. I learned long ago that if she really doesn't want someone to do something, they will have a hell of a time attempting to do it. She doesn't put up much of a fight with this unless I accidentally hurt her, and I feel really privileged that she's okay with letting me take care of her pinfeathers.
I did move twice earlier this year, and that was rough on her. (Basic info: mom sold the house I grew up in, and we had to be out before the apartment I was moving into was ready... so I finished finals, moved into my mom's apartment two days later, and then moved again a little less than a month after that. It suuuuuuuuucked and I still have a bunch of stuff in boxes all over my apartment.) When we got to the first apartment, Lenore was so scared that she wouldn't leave her travel carrier when I put it in her cage, and she HATES the travel carrier. But she adjusted... and then we moved again. She adjusted more quickly to the second place, and she seems to be fine here. I keep her in my bedroom because it's where I spend most of my time, though it does face a relatively major street and it can be a bit noisy at times. But overall she seems happy. She plays with her toys and wanders around her gigantic cage and is generally pleasant to be around.
Anyways, pictures! Here's one obligatory artsy shot of The Upside Down Birdie Trick (which she loves doing):
Obligatory disclaimer: Lenore is not terribly graceful, and during the first few months I had her she fell in her cage and messed up one of her wings. I have asked the vet about it multiple times, and he said that she's not in pain and fixing it wouldn't give her the ability to fly, and would just be costly and unnecessary. Lenore is a climber anyways (as linnies apparently tend to be), and it doesn't impair her ability to get around at all. If I thought for a second she was in pain or it was compromising her quality of life, I'd have it fixed.
I took this before I preened her this evening; this is only a week, maybe two weeks' worth of pinfeathers, and those are just the ones she can't get to. @_____@
Not terribly thrilled about being handled like this for preening, but she tolerates it and lets me do it. I'm very gentle when holding her and use a loose grip so she doesn't feel too violated.
Free to roam about (and poop on my futon)! I also didn't realize that the bottles were in the background, so before y'all start thinking I'm an alcoholic: they're non-alcoholic sparkling cider, and the grocery store is almost always sold out of this one kind, so when I saw they had restocked I grabbed like six bottles. Also my living room/kitchen is a mess.
Upside down birdie!
A closeup shot of her lower body/feathers, which are absolutely gorgeous (because she knows how to preen way better than my clumsy ass).
Giving the classic "excuse me wtf r u doin" face. I wanted a picture of her with the poster of Burt Reynolds' Cosmo spread that I have framed in my living room, but I don't think Lenore recognizes how magnificent it is. Or maybe she doesn't like Burt hogging any attention from her, since she's clearly the most beautiful one in this picture. ;)
So there's my little lady!
