Long time, no post...

Sorry I sort of dropped out, but I am spending most of my online life in an entirely different place now.

I have a tragedy to relay to you all.  For those of you who knew my beautiful, precious lovebird, Sunshine...well, she is no more.  An accident (that will not be repeated) about two weeks ago.  I am, of course, shattered and heartbroken.

But life goes on, and I've discovered that I *need* a bird in my life the way I never knew I could.  So I am getting a Dusky Conure from a local breeder.  Benny (short for Benito) is believed to be male, and is still being hand-fed, so I have not brought him home yet.  He is, of course, the sweeeetest little baby boy!  I live near enough that I can go and see him several times a week, and I am in LOVE.

In the meantime, though...I've rescued a parrotlet.  He's a breeder bird from the same people who have my Dusky.  About two years ago, his mate bit most of his beak off!  He is still able to eat small seed, though, and seems to be not much worse for wear.  But of course, he can't be sold as a pet, and can't be put in with other p'lets, because of the lack of a beak.  He is not handle-able, and I don't know that he ever will be, but I love his little chirps--they are so cute!

I figure that rescuing Ducky (sorry, but his beak almost looks like a duck bill!) evens out the weirdness I feel at buying a pet, which I've never done before in my life--I'm pretty much a rescue person, and never pictured myself buying a critter, since they just sort of happen to me, usually.  Just like Sunshine did.  And maybe Benny and Ducky will be good company for each other when there are no humans around.

Anyway, any advice anyone wants to give me regarding Benny OR Ducky would be just swell, as I've had very little experience with either conures or p'lets, and I've also never had a baby bird before!

Bad, blurry pic of Ducky, because I didn't want to frighten him.
