Since bringing home Cash, my entire world has changed. I began working with Cash's breeder, Ms. Carol. Carol is the head of the zoo's aviary, and runs a private rescue out of her home. She takes in 'problem' birds. Screamers, pluckers/mutilators, severe aggression cases. I've handled parrots I never thought I would, and gained a new understanding and love for them all.
I also got to take part in a major rescue-effort. A local breeder died suddenly, and her entire flock was left untended. Thirty-nine large macaws, including Hyacinths, and at least sixty smaller species of parrots. I helped provide medical care, feeding, and transportation across the country to a sanctuary. There's a picture of me somewhere floating around the internet holding one of the hyacinths. It was pretty awe-inspiring.
I've went from terrified of larger birds, to adopting two of them: A Moluccan Cockatoo, and an African Grey. Before anyone comments: yes, I know what I'm getting into with the M2. Because of Carol, I've seen first-hand the horrors that can happen to them when not properly cared for. Through her, I also got to fall in love with one of hers', whom has a horrific story of abuse.
Remington and Savannah should be home in the next week or two, weather permitting. Without further ado, the pictures:
