The one breeder I was going to go with, went out of town over the weekend, and sold all but one of the babies. It just felt kind of dirty. "Oh, I'll pack up the babies and come meet you." Then, she announces she has to go out of town for an emergency--no contact all weekend, then mysteriously all the hatchlings are sold(I was SUPPOSED to pick my baby originally on Friday afternoon, but she canceled for this out-of-town adventure). I got one email asking if I'd like the last baby, without seeing it, especially compared to the other littles.
This is kind of setting off alarm bells in my head. I'm guessing the one little left over has some health problems-- and I hope I'm totally wrong, truly-- but I'm actually wondering if those babies are dead.
Thankfully, there's another breeder that--while far more expensive-- is closer to home and very reputable. She offers a five-year health guarantee, and many wonderful extras with her birds. (She's a trainer for the local zoo, and rehabilitates rescues in her home). I'll be going there to drop my deposit on a little Pineapple Green Cheek, and meet her personal birds.
I'm still majorly bummed, though.
