I looked through the memories and tags and couldn't find anything, so... Has anyone used
Feliway diffuser in a house with birds?
I Googled and got a couple conflicting answers as to whether or not it's safe to use in a house with birds. On
this page, according to the manufacturer, "The general rule of thumb is that if a bird can "handle" wax-based non-scented candles OK, there shouldn't be a problem. The Feliway diffuser is a wax-based paraffin oil, similar to a candle, and it is odorless." On
this page, Dr. Lynn Dustin of Bay Area Bird Hospital in San Francisco says, "I have no problem with Feliway spray as long as it's used at least 4 or 5 feet from the bird, and not sprayed at the bird. I do have a problem with the diffuser, and do not think it should be used in a home with birds."
I know that birds are sensitive to the perfumes from essential oils, which most scented candles have, but apparently the Feliway diffuser has no perfumes, just the pheromone in unscented wax-based paraffin oil without a wick or any flame. Assuming birds are unaffected by the pheromone (my dad, a molecular biologist, says it shouldn't have any effect on them), shouldn't it be safe to use?
