Hi~
Hi I'm new here and wanted to introduce myself and my 14 year old Umbrella Cockatoo named Crackers.
She was a rescue bird I got when I was 14 and was also my first Bird.
And now 5 years latter we are the best of friends and She will let me do anything with her.
When I got her I had the some bad habit's I had to brake her from One of them being the people that use to care for her the wife was so scared of her she would give Crackers anything.
One of the thing being black coffee(on top of a bunch of food that was not good for her).
Cracker when I got here would scream and Bite till she got her coffee and in the end I ended up have to give it to her too. But I slowly started to ween her off of it and in about a year She didn't even care.
Other thing was Every time she would Yell her other care givers would dump water on her to make her quiet.
Crackers would not take a bath for the love of god seeing it as a punishment.
That ended up taking over 2 years of her watch me take baths and showers before she would even try and get wet.
I'm really happy that In only 5 short year and this bird having me being new to this turned out the way she is now. We now have trust to were she will lay on her back in my hands and let me toss up in there air. And she now has a healthy diet (I never saw a bird so scared of veggies before I meet her) and a great personality. She will let anyone pet her and hold her and She only Bit mostly in the first year of her staying with us. And that was because she didn't get coffee and if you had water by her she would flip.
IM really happy to have fond this com And I hope that I can find help with stuff I might need or give my help to people who might need it too.
