Are white lupin beans (boiled, of course, to remove the alkaloids) any good for lovebirds? I'm asking this, because they're so high in water, fiber and proteins and so low in fat and so easy to find here, that it could be a nice extra for mine...

!diet, lovebirds

Not totally sure if they are considered bird safe. Haven't seen them on any do not feed lists though. If they have been soaked in salt water or bought in a jar, then no. They are also going to be difficult to digest, so I definitely wouldn't feed on a regular basis even if they are bird safe. Lentils have a similar nutritional profile and are much easier to digest, so I would go with them instead personally. My little guys get cooked lentils almost every day. Sometimes they also get mung beans, adzuki beans, and chickpeas.

Yeah, I already give them lentils, but I don't cooked them, because lentils are the rare beans that aren't toxic when uncooked. I also give them a little bit of chopped almonds, which has all of the above qualities, plus a lot vitamins.

I just thought that lupins could be a good extra. :)
Thanks for the answer!
