This time it's problems and solutions:

The garden's a f'n mess. literally.

This picture from yesterday lead to the discovery that moving vines can crack them:

So theres not a solution to this is there? Of course there is! I give you-

The vine has been floral taped (in wet conditions this may need to be repeated if the tape falls off) back together and left to heal. I'm hoping that the vine just naturally heals on its own. This is a two person job, one person holds tight and the other tapes as best as they can starting before the crack and finishing after. There can be multiple pieces of tape involved if the first one cut is not long enough, but make sure to have enough overlap to get a good sturdy hold on it.

Trying to replicate the same shot as the previous day. Crack is completely taped.

Howden on the first bed of sand I've ever laid for a pumpkin. I told you it was an obsession on the pumpkin forums! Growing pumpkins in the grass can lead to the grass dying, and rotting under the pumpkin, leading the pumpkin to be prone to rotting. Sand allows water to drain through it, and the landscape fabric gives a solid backing to the "dying" grass.

The actual first watermellon. I found it today was moving the vine to retrain it to run down the opposite side of the raised bed box. The one posted yesterday was the second watermellon, polinated today!

Parts of the garden were weeded today, the rest will be done tomorrow. Pesticide was sprayed on the giants and howden's new growth as we do NOT intend to eat them. Also had to treat for Jap beetles. Hope they enjoyed dining in my garden cause it cost them their life. I will not use traps as I do not believe that they work, but they rather attract more bugs to the yard.

Squash bugs should be dying off soon. Been picking eggs for a few weeks, hoping to keep them at bay, but not successfully. Need to check every inch of the vines for borers. This ought to be fun to find them. Hoping the giants don't have any.

I'm glad that during all of this I have the garden to distract me from the pain, and motivate me to keep moving. It's been a bitch with the knee pain, but with this I've managed to work through most of it.
