.
So this is an entirely 'By Parlophone, Aged Twelve' type of post, but from the instant I read Prisoner of Azkaban, I had a mental image of Sirius in my head.
And he looked like this:
From the v first HP film onwards, I've suffered shock after shock from the casting choices (whaaa, why is everyone sooo old? And fugly?) But as the film franchise moved on, try as I might, it became increasingly difficult to shake off the image of film!Severus, or Lucius, or McGonagall from my head.
Except for Sirius.
No amount of Gary Oldman disappointing casting managed to displace the Sirius in my head. And I think it's bc I didn't just pick him for his looks (in the way some people pick their Harry from modeling agency galleries.) I *like* to think my Sirius was a truuuly inspired choice based on personality; one that embodies erm, brilliance and doom in equal measure.
My Sirius is Marat Safin, and he's a Russian tennis player.
He's one of the most charismatic and talented players ever to set foot on a tennis court, but also a champion-class headcase, who's capable of beating the World Number 1 (e.g. Sampras, Federer) on a good day, only to self-implode the next, coming down in a spectacular flurry of smashed racquets and exotic Russian swear words. He's suffered some lingering injuries these past few years; his motivation has been questionable. Things had become so bad that even the staunchest of his fans (incl moi) had begun to resign themselves to his inevitable downward spiral towards retirement and oblivion.
Well, today Sirius Marat won a second round match.
At Wimbledon, no less.
In straight sets.Against the World No3 Novak Djokovic, who'd been tipped by the pundits (incl Bjorn Borg!) to beat Roger Federer (No1) in the semis next week, and to take the entire championships by beating Rafa Nadal (No2) in the final.
May I say I wet my pants?
Sirius Lives!
Do you have anyone you think of as Your ideal HP character?
(Bonus Pics *g* from here on.)
I've always thought
lazlet's choice for
Bellatrix was inspired.
Boyd Holbrook shot to fame in the H/D fandom when
geoviki used him on the cover for her novel,
A Thousand Beautiful Things. (Banner image borrowed from Viki.)
painless_j and I were dining at my favourite restaurant in Madrid when with much excitement, she sighted her 'Young Snape'. Unfortunately, he was several tables away, and lots of people blocked our view of him. After a few frustrating attempts, PJ dropped any pretense of stealth and contorted herself all over her seat to get these pics on my camera. By that time, the poor chap, ALL his pals, and about half the restaurant had spotted her, which is why poor Young Snape looks pink.
(Pardon me, PJ reminded me to add that Young Severus had a ponytail. How I wish we'd seen him with his hair down!)
And here is the Draco I chose to have in my head when I first started reading fanfic. You have to remember, back then H/D fics were mostly set in their 4/5th Year. Please be assured that my brain does an expert job of suitably ageing him up for more recent stories.
ETA: Added
geoviki's ATBT!Draco,
lazlet's Bellatrix,
painless_j's Young Snape, and 'my' Draco.
